Head, Heart, Hands

In preparing our kids for Godprint we want to give you a great approach that can help so much to make a life lesson real to our kids. This is a practical tool you can use as your kids go through Godprint, but is also very useful for many parenting situations.  Ask your kids these questions as they go through the week:

1. Head: “What did you think?  What did you learn? ” We know how vitally important our thought life is.  Our thoughts are what we give attention to and attention leads to the direction and outcomes of our lives.
Parent question: “How do I want my kids to think?”

2. Heart: “What feels different?  Is there anything changing inside of you?” I know that this might seem to touchy-feely to some; but what we are actually looking at is our character and hearts being changed.  We do want to deal with our emotional responses to things as well.  As parents we all want our kids to grow up to be people of high character who are not ruled by their emotions; but are free to feel in healthy ways.
Parent questions: “Who do I want my kids to become?  How do I want them to feel?

handprint3. Hands: “What would you like to do with what you learned?  What actions can you take from your thoughts and feelings? We know that what we learn does not really translate into real life until we act.  We can know its true and feel its true; but it does not become true to us until we act.  So we want to give our kids practical application to what they are learning.
Parent questions: “What do I want my kids to do?”

Your Adventure this weekend is to come up with answers to the parent questions in this article.  How do I want my kids to think, feel and act?  Write our a list for your kids (and yourself so you can be an example to them).  Then tomorrow go to church to test this out.  On the way home from church ask them them some of the questions posted above.  If you want you can even pick one of the things off the list and talk to your kids about it.  Just make sure you give them doable actions points that are appropriate to their age and development.

Pray this over your family: “Papa God, we give you our minds, our hearts, and our hands.  Help us to think like you, to have your heart, and to act as you would have us.  We ask for you grace to do this.”

We are going to turn our focus to the Godprint Event coming up next Mon-Fri, July 20-24. How do you best prepare your kids and family for this exciting time? Before we start know this: your involvement as parents during this week can profoundly and exponentially maximize the benefit and impact of Godprint. If your kids see you involved, hear you ask questions, and hear you speak positively they will get more out of the week.  Here are some other things you can do to prepare:

1. Register
If you have not registered yet, go for it.  If you can only pay partially or not at all; don’t let that hold you back. Just email go2godprint@gmail.com and request a partial or full scholarship.

2. Give
If you have the ability and the desire to bless another kid give a Scholarship at the same place you register.

3. Take your family to see the movie “UP”. If you haven’t heard we have been strongly influenced by Pixar’s brilliant animation about relationships.  Your kids will be able to follow along with our theme a little better if they see the movie.

Go to www.lewistonmovies.com for movie times.

4. Realize that Godprint is more than an event it is a step towards deeper relationships.

Hopefully, many of you are coming to the same realization that we have come to: God (print) is not just an event, but a step to deeper relationships.  Deeper relationship with our Creator that powerfully impacts our whole family every day and deeper relationships in our family.  God’s “print”  releases a creativity that comes from Him upon our lives that is then expressed in specific times and in wonderful ways.  One of those events is our Godprint week and some ways are art, dance, sports, movement, engineering, and science.  (Just to name a few things we do).  No creativity and genius is more potent than when our highest potential meets God’s highest intent. Yet, we also realize that God most loves to “touch” us and our relationships beyond the boundaries of specific events down to the daily steps of our lives and families.

Pray this over your family today:
“Papa God, please help our highest potential to meet your highest intent.  Please prepare our whole family for what you want to do in each one of us during Godprint week, especially in our home.”

Two days ago we discussed the clouds of negativity being an obstacle to us experiencing adventure in our families.  Another potential enemy of adventure is the poison of comparison.  When we cannot appreciate our own lives; because we want to be more like someone else it robs us of the anticipation for the journey ahead.  We don’t all need to have the exact house, with the same white picket fence, and the identical cars in the driveway.  Can any of that make us happy in the long run anyway?  May I suggest that the God who made us might have something to say about what will truly fulfill us. God has a unique path for our families to walk down that is different than others.  That is very good news, as this world would be a very boring place if we all looked the same, acted the same, had the same stuff, and raised our kids exactly the same.  I believe that a healthy balance of teach-ability and flexibility is just the antidote needed to protect us from this poison of comparison.  It is good to be teachable so that we do learn from those who raise their families well; but be flexible enough to know that with the unique blend of gifts, personalities, and callings in our family we may have to do things a little differently.  We can always learn to steward our material possessions well and there is nothing wrong with growing what God gives us into more.  For one family that might mean carrying the burden of stewarding more and for another family that might mean learning thankfulness through less.  Don’t compare; but instead know that God is good and what He is giving you is therefore very good indeed.

Your adventure today is to come up with with areas where you may be comparing yourself to others too much.  Are there areas that you can help your kids identify?  Talk as a family today about how every person and family has a different journey to take….and that is a good thing!

Pray I John 2:15-17 over yourselves and your family
“Papa God, please help the journey to be about loving you and your will more than what the world says is important.”

Part of the adventure of life is to renew remodel and refurbish old things to a newer state.  Many of us are also naturally gifted towards organization and cleanliness.  You know this is part of your gifting if it is fun for you to clean and put things in order; you like the challenge.  You may be one of those that likes a work area with all the tools put in exactly the right spot or a house that is spotless.  I admire that in people, it is a gift from God to bring order to chaos.  So what happens when our family members get in the way of our “order”?  How do we make people a priority?

Your Adventure today is to come up with some ideas of how to make people a priority while maintaining a sense of “peace” in the home.  I can’t wait to hear your ideas.
